ISS is a leading global facilities services company, employing 440,000 staff worldwide, and serving over 100,000 business-to-business customers in over 50 countries.
With a workforce of over 43,000 employees, ISS services are delivered directly by deploying multi-skilled teams to customer sites. However, due to the nature of its business, ISS managed many complex payrolls, with multiple pay frequencies and substantial complications due to scale and National Insurance aggregation requirements.
Its in-house bespoke system was tailored specifically for their needs, but with several single points of failure, ISS had a serious business risk. The business wanted to de-risk its payroll, while maintaining its cost base and streamlining the process.
With Ceridian’s Managed Payroll Service, ISS have successfully reduced their risk of error by:
In the first full weekly payroll run, there were only 143 issues, which were all resolved before impacting the payroll run. In 2010, the average payroll accuracy was 99.85%, an extremely high figure given the complexity of the organisation.
Ceridian’s consultants rolled out the new service in a phased approach through the first quarter of 2007. Their challenge was to have the system implemented by April of that year, in time for Tax Year End, with no disruption to day-to-day duties.
Each division was assessed, and smaller divisions were transferred to the live payroll solution first. Once the consultants were satisfied that initial migrations were successful, they progressed to the larger divisions. This phased process helped control errors, and ensured minimal disruption to the business.
Self-Service was implemented for managers, streamlining the current process and maintaining data accuracy, as well as reducing the amount of administration.
The solution was integrated with an existing time-capture system and includes automated Workflow processes which allow electronic approval of data. Hourly payroll data is automatically fed into the payroll and overseen by nominated payroll champions.
By March 2007, the solution had successfully gone live across the UK.
