Keeping up with legislation

Five steps to HR & payroll compliance

To help you keep up with the legislative changes, we've put together a quick resource guide detailing key resources that are available to most HR and payroll professionals.

1. Networking seminars

There are a number of organisations who are running free legislation update seminars across the country. This can prove to be a valuable hub of information, as you’ll get the chance to meet industry professionals and also network with your peers.

Why not sign up to attend Ceridian’s Legislation Updates? This seminar is held twice a year and includes a rich source of information about upcoming legislation that will affect payroll processing, wage attachments, employment verification, tax withholdings or related human resource issues. Our next seminars will be held throughout September and October, with guest speakers: Simon Parsons, Ian Brennan and Ian McKenna (all from Ceridian) and Sharon Auld (from Ellis Whittam).

2. Consult your payroll provider

As your strategic partner, your payroll provider can:

  • Save you time researching regulations and translating them into system updates
  • Mitigate risk of non compliance and related fines and penalties
  • Provide subject matter expertise on employment and payroll-related compliance issues

3. Professional organisations:

The Institute of Payroll Professionals offers members several mediums for members to stay current with legislation.

4. Government:

Government websites such as the HMRC, Home Office, HR Treasury and BERR offer updates, as well as tools and resources.

5. Newsletters:

Subscribe to a monthly newsletter and to get a quick update of any legislation changes, key landmark cases and legislative deadlines. Start with reading our Employment Law Update for September.
