How resilient are you?

Coping with overload

coping with overloadAt times many of us feel overwhelmed with work pressure and family life. During the summer this pressure may be increased as colleagues go on holiday and children are not at school.

Experts agree that some of the key factors in overcoming overload are setting limits, getting organised, prioritising and staying healthy. LifeWorks can help you manage overload by providing practical support, information and advice.

Things to try

For example, arranging holiday childcare will help you to feel more in control of your time. LifeWorks can help you plan your children’s summer; finding a nanny suited to your requirements, locating a summer camp near to your home and giving you ideas for keeping your child entertained in the summer months.

Staying healthy is also vital to managing overload and LifeWorks can advise you on achieving a balanced diet, safe exercising and dealing with a chronic illness. If you need help to give up smoking, want to learn more about healthy eating or want to start a fitness plan LifeWorks can support you.

Already feeling overloaded? If you need some emotional support, LifeWorks will assess your needs and arrange face to face counselling near to your home or work if necessary.

Hints and Tips

Easy ways to feel less overloaded today:

  • To relax try deep breathing or visualising a beautiful calm scene for a few minutes.
  • Prioritise your tasks at work and at home. Delegate or get help if you can.
  • Take control of information overload, try not to check your emails all the time, check them a few times a day and deal with them straight away.
  • Try not to multitask, expert believe doing lots of things at once will actually make you less productive.
  • Eat a balanced diet, maintaining a steady blood sugar level will help you cope with the ups and downs of your day. Try not to fall into the more caffeine/ less sleep cycle.
  • Try going to bed 30 minutes earlier every day this week and see how much difference this small change will make
  • Make time for yourself to do the things you love. You will feel refreshed and better able to cope with the tasks you need to accomplish at work and at home.
  • Make your holiday a real break. Make sure you know how your work will be handled while you are away and do not take your phone or laptop with you.
