Employers encouraged to promote more "green" policies
— 30 August 2007 —
The CIPD has claimed that employers can do better to promote environmentally friendly policies in the workplace.
Companies should be aware of how conscious and passionate people are about environmental issues, and CSR will be an increasingly important ingredient in attracting talent into their organisation. Employees also have a real appetite for engaging with CSR initiatives when they are made available.

While 91% of employers encourage recycling and 83% encourage reducing energy consumption, the latest CIPD/KPMG Labour Market Outlook highlights the fact that other measures are not being implemented.
Only 45% of employers surveyed said that they had car-sharing schemes in place, while just 30% allowed home working. Just over a third claimed that their aim was to become carbon-neutral.
Employees, however, have taken to greener working practises. A recent Ceridian survey proved that “green benefits” would be attractive when searching for a new job, and 64% of employees surveyed by the CIPD claim that they recycle at work.
Mike Kelly, Director of corporate social responsibility at KPMG, added, "People increasingly expect to work in a business that has embedded environmental management systems to effectively manage its environmental impacts, and we are finding that it is an issue that is moving up the agenda, especially among the graduate community."
