Business "dating agency" created for 2012 Olympics
— 25 January 2008 —
Business Minister Stephen Timms will today commit to helping businesses make the most of opportunities arising from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. According to the minister, the 2012 Games will be about more than just sport, and should also be regarded as an opportunity for British businesses to leave a lasting economic legacy. He'll be speaking at 'The Taking business beyond 2012' conference, the aim of which is to ensure that as many businesses as possible benefit from the 2012 Games. The conference will also give businesses a chance to learn more about the networking site being launched to facilitate business interaction.
The London 2012 Business Network, which was launched last week, includes a business ‘dating agency’ that will match companies to thousands of opportunities to supply London 2012 contractors. The 'CompeteFor' platform will include Business Link, the Government's multi-channel business support service, which provides customers with access to the help and support needed to start and develop a business.
We want to ensure that as many firms as possible can benefit from the 2012 Games. That is why we are setting out the business support services that can help firms win opportunities to supply London 2012, grow their businesses for the long term and compete internationally. Stephen Timms, Business Minister
Mr Timms added that there are currently a record number of small firms in the UK, and that his goal was to ensure that as many as possible had the chance to use the Games as a catalyst to grow their businesses, bid for wider government contracts, and to compete to supply markets around the world.
This is the first ever ‘business dating agency’ for suppliers on a project of this scale, and is intended to give companies large and small a unique opportunity to support the delivery of the London 2012 Games.
Laura Vosper, Ceridian's Head of Brand and Strategy added that "this is a great chance for small and medium-sized businesses to benefit from the boost the Olympics will bring to the economy. At Ceridian, we provide a range of people services that can help small businesses resource up and organise their staff so they are best placed to take advantage of this unique opportunity."
