Men on the receiving end of sexual harassment at work

4 July 2008

Four in five men are suffering sexual harassment by women at work, according to a recent study.

Law firm Peninsula found that 85% of employers say they take complaints of sexual harassment from men less seriously, while 66% of the men questioned said that sexual banter was not appropriate in the workplace.

Peninsula’s David Price underlined the growing problem by saying that the balance has shifted, “and it is now women who are aiming sexual banter at male workers. Many workers are under the opinion that sexual banter is an acceptable norm in the workplace.

“But not everyone is happy with these types of jokes and the situation is a consistently growing problem for employers.

“The majority of men don’t feel that gender discrimination applies to them, and tend to just accept any banter aimed at them.”
