EAP, productivity and pressure
The give and take behind working hard
Work-life balance is a real issue for employers of all sizes. The typical 9-to-5 kind of job is fast becoming a thing of the past. Many employees are finding that increased work demands are creeping over into their personal time. Does this sound like your company?
The good news and...
Increased connectivity means customers are now expecting immediate service at all hours. This in turn translates to more pressure on those providing the service. The CIPD has conducted surveys on employee attitudes about their workloads. The results are
sobering:
- One in five people, including managerial and professional workers, are taking work home with them almost every day.
- One in three partners of people who typically work more than 48 hours a week feel that this has had a negative effect on personal relationships.
Despite these figures, two-thirds of employees say their employer has no family-friendly practices or personal-support services in place. How does your company fit into these statistics?
Maintaining balance
At times many of us feel overwhelmed with work pressure and family life. In the summer, this pressure is often increased as colleagues go on holiday and children are at home during the school holidays. Experts agree that some of the key factors in overcoming overload are:
- setting limits,
- getting organised,
- prioritising,
- and staying healthy
How an EAP can help
LifeWorks can help you manage overload by providing practical support, information and advice. Arranging holiday childcare, for example, will help you to feel more in control of your time. LifeWorks can help you plan your children’s summer by:
- finding a nanny suited to your requirements,
- locating a summer camp near to your home
- giving you ideas for keeping your child entertained in the summer months
Staying healthy is also vital to managing overload. LifeWorks can advise you on:
- achieving a balanced diet,
- safe exercising
- dealing with a chronic illness.
We could support you through a range of other situations. If you need help to give up smoking, want to learn more about healthy eating or want to start a fitness plan, LifeWorks has existing resources in place to assist you.
Talk about it
LifeWorks can also help if you are already feeling overloaded. If you need some emotional support, LifeWorks will assess your needs and even arrange face-to-face counselling near to your home or work if necessary. This service is completely confidential.
If you feel this service could help ease the pressure on the employees in your company, contact us for more information.
