Avoiding Age Discrimination
Avoiding Age Discrimination
As you know, 1 October 2007 marked the first anniversary of the law against age discrimination. How has your company has dealt with the change in legislation?
Did you know?
Small businesses who fail to make changes to their employment policies, are at risk of employment disputes.
A recent survey conducted by independent statutory body Acas indicates that only 17 per cent of SME's had changed their employment and recruitment practices since the introduction of the legislation. The survey further showed that one in 10 SME's had previously treated people differently on the basis of age and had not made changes to their practices in response to the regulations.
Fairness at work and good job performance go hand in hand. It's almost a year since the new age discrimination rules were introduced and employment tribunal complaints have been made. Many employers still haven't realised what this could mean for them. Steve Williams, Acas Head of Equality
By instituting the correct policies, you can help to minimise the risk of prosecution and make employment decisions on the basis of talent and skills alone.
