All employees, at whatever seniority, have obligations to act in our employer’s best interests. But occasionally, the balance between short-term and long-term interests conflict and what’s best for the employee and employer may not be aligned.
This raises questions on how far organisations can and should go outside the work environment to support colleagues.
The lines between personal and professional continue to blur; in time, in geography and in attitude, and this complicates situations. It’s difficult to see how you can properly help a person without understanding the breadth of this position, and none of us are defined solely in one dimension.
